And Candlelighters will get double the money...
This post was published this morning on Leeds United blog Clarkeonenil.co.uk:
Readers will be aware of the Clarkeonenil Charity Bets and Challenges page. I am pleased to report that not only have the Leeds United Supporters Trust met the challenge set but also Gary Cooper, the L.U.S.T chair has agreed to match, from his own pocket, the amount mentioned, which was 10p for every shareholder member out of the 4500 members they presently have.
The figure relevant to the challenge is 350 shareholding members, a figure I am happy to accept as accurate without question which means £35 from me.Gary will also donate £35. I wish to take this opportunity to say that the 350 figure for shareholders is impressive, being a real sign of progress and forms a good basis from which to improve that number. I hope that of the 4000+ members who took advantage of the free membership offer (including those who donated to L.U.S.T) most go on to pay for the shareholder membership.
I thank Gary for matching the donation, for meeting the challenge on behalf of L.U.S.T and for the honesty around the shareholding figure. The Charity Bets and Challenges Page will be amended accordingly.
As regular readers will be aware this site has a harsh interpretation of what it thinks L.U.S.T should be, particularly in this Bates infested era. We will continue to set high standards. We do however want to see successful supporters organisations, including the Supporters Trust, and we do want to see the interests of all of us promoted as directly as possible. Whilst history is always with us the future is always more important.
If you are in any way intending to make a charity donation soon why not add to the Candlelighters fund.
Leeds United Supporter's Trust are always happy to share information about our organisation with anyone who asks, and are glad to have been able to combine this with a donation to a very worthwhile cause. We thank Clarkeonenil for their positive comments about our recent progress, and are pleased to take both the kind words and the criticisms on board as we work to bring Leeds fans together for the good of the club.
